Web Application Redesign

Client: Footprint Project

Brief: In an attempt to green humanitarian relief missions, Footprint Project requires a platform to advocate for their consulting services and online calculators that empower organizations to record environmental impact data and make sustainable decisions.

Opportunities:

  • Stylize the marketing site and online carbon calculator tool to represent consistent branding.

  • Communicate clearly the purpose of Footprint Project through each touchpoint.

  • Research the current calculator tool to identify and propose changes that better reflect the needs of its users.

Recommendations:

  • Merged branding between marketing site and online carbon calculator tool.

  • Enhanced spreadsheet for users to download as part of Footprint Projects service.

  • Proposed usability enhancements to all touchpoints.

Future Goals:

  • Evaluate our recommendations throughout the upcoming storm season through contextual inquiries.

  • Work with institutional donors to produce a standardized environmental impact report format.

Calculating our design impact

These designs and our research were used by Footprint Project to take their services to institutional donors to aid in funding for organizations. The marketing site provides a centralized hub for stakeholders, communicating a clear message as to who the Footprint Project is, what their services are, and how to contact them. The site also provides accelerated means of distributing their calculator tool to other organizations that want to track their environmental impact and improve their reporting methods.


Second Iteration

Based on our research coupled with the ease of use of the new designs for the calculator we provided, Footprint Project reached out again and we were given the opportunity to create another set of wireframes that focused on diesel and estimates of power requirements - information that we did not have before but became obvious when we had time to re-evaluate how the online calculator aligned with the strategy of the company.
